Bob died after a long decline in health on May 7, 2024. We send sympathy to his wife Fran, his three daughters, and five grandchildren. Bob, a former Marine, practiced law in his home area of Kalkaska, MI for 43 years. His life was full of interests and his love of family. Semper Fi.
I joined the Marine Corps with Bob in September 1962. We went in on the 'buddy plan'. I enjoyed my high school days being a friend of his at York. He was always unassuming and had a great sense of humor. Rest In Peace my friend.
Bob and I attended the 50th and while Bob changed his mind as we got to the doors on Friday night, and after I made him walk in, we both enjoyed the weekend. Bob was sure know one would remember him or have anything to say to him. He never felt like he was well known or well liked except by his few closest friends. He was touched by so many and complimented by so many. He laughed when a group of guys asked him what he did for a living, and they were in shock and laughed, he understood the laughter.
He was pleasantly surprised and touched when we were walking out of the library on Saturday and we heard a guy yell, "BOB CAREY......BOB CAREY.....man it is you". We talked for quite a long time in the parking lot and of course that night. (sorry my mind has gone blank, Ill have to look at our photo albums as I took several pictures of the two of them). He was so happy at that moment.
And that night I pushed him out of his chair to get up and go to speak to a group of guys he recognized...again he felt like it was not going to turn out good.....and again, he was so wrong.
I just wanted to let you know a bit of Bob. He was well respected in our small town, he not only was an attorney but on several boards. He gave me and his 3 daughters a great life. He was kind, involved, funny and he taught me to step outside of my comfort zone and have some fun. (He convinced me to hitch hike from Michigan to California and back, the year before we got married.......wayyyyyy not me! But it is one of the best memories and learning experiences of my life. He was a good man and hard worker. He will be missed by so many. Thank you for being his friend.
I was touched by what Bob's wife posted. We shy people don't like to put ourselves out front. I knew of Bob, but we did not get to know each other probably because of our shyness. I had to overcome my shyness because I took jobs that required me to talk in front of people. We often do not know what impact we have on others unless they tell us. Evidently, Bob was not as aware of his impact on other people. I wish that I had gotten to know Bob better during high school. I am so thank for my four years at York and the great community that I grew up in and the people I did know.
Hello classmates, I am so sorry for the loss of our classmate Robert Carey...I also am impressed by the note His Wife sent to our class! I'm also impressed by the comments from George Stonesifer and Charles Durland . We all were the class of 1962 York community high school and we are afraid to open the door to our class reunion That we Won't be accepted and remembered!!! Very unfortunate I have felt it also! Of course everyone goes to The people they know...just my thoughts...Susan
