Dale and I were close boyhood friends. His grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Don Russell lived behind us. Don was a researcher/writer for Encyclopaedia Brittanica and wrote several books, including one about Buffalo Bill Cody.

I was privileged to attend a meeting of the Westerners book club with Dale and his grandfather when his grandfather gave a review of the book.

Dale died in 1994 of heart failure. He left behind two daughters from his first marriage and a son from his second marriage.

Dale was also a good friend of mine, especially from Boy Scouting. He was an excellent swimmer and I was not. I found that out very definitively when I tried to keep up with him at camp one year. His father was our Scout Leader and when his father died we all participated in his funeral in a very moving way. Dale was a quiet but good friend.
