Finally, our class 60th reunion is open for your enthusiastic participation. Pardon that it took so long while Covid affects our lives, but the events and venues are worth the wait for this special 60th DIAMOND reunion.
Booking a flight for the reunion weekend? Consider travel/cancellation insurance or a refundable ticket in case your plans change. Concerned you contacted the virus in transit? There will be a limited supply of 15-minute self-test kits at the two reunion events. Feel more comfortable wearing a mask? We'll have a supply at each event, and take photos of the best mask designs worn during the weekend. Social distancing? The two venues are spacious enough to allow that.
Accomodations: If you're not staying with family, a friend, an Air BnB, you may consider Springhill Suites By Marriott, 410 W. Lake St., Elmhurst, IL. It will be a close commute to both venues. However, Springhill Suiites currently does NOT provide shuttle service for their guests, so provide your own transportation through local friends or hired services. Official Reunion Events:
Friday, Sept. 9, 6:00-8:00: Meet & Greet Pizza Night at Mama Maria's Pizzeria for food, drink, games, and comeraderie from 6:00-8:00. Ticket price includes a variety of pizzas, a side salad, & Coca Cola soft drinks. Wine by the glass and bottled beer (nothing on tap) are available with cash or credit card. Maria's also has special order options for gluten-free or vegan needs.. The event ends with a drawing for a special reunion souvenir. Leave early if you plan to catch the York vs Proviso West home game at 7:30, or stay to the end and later explore Elmhurst's offerings for night caps and more conversaton time with your classmate friends. Elmhurst Rock the Block on 1st Street end at 10:45pm.
Saturday, Sept. 10, 6:00-9:30 pm.: The 60th Reunion Banquet features a plated dinner at Angelo's Ristorante second floor banquet room, Elmhurst. The menu choices are chicken, salmon or beef fillet, and includes garlic bread, mixed greens salad, green beans, and a sweet table of fruit and homemade desserts. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free entrees may be pre-ordered from the dining menu . Soft drinks, coffee & tea are included. Cash bar for beer, wine and mixed drinks . The facility has elevator service as well as a large stairway. Bring your cameras and cell phones for photo opportunities.
Do-It Yourself Events:
Saturday Afternoon: Attend a hosted event such as your Elmhurst grade school mini-reunion, a gathering of York Music Department band, orchestra, and choir members, York club and athletic teams. Or make a gathering of your own. Check the Home Page Announcements in July for listings of host contacts for more information, and for Elmhurst places of interest to visit. Elmhurst runs two free trolleys all day for the Rock the Block downtown music, food & drink festival.
Sunday Brunch: Meet classmates for Sunday brunch 7:30-11:00 at The Atrium, main floor of the Hilton Chicago-Oakbrook Suites, 10 Drury Lane, Oakbrook, IL. Or make your own group brunch arrangements at an area eatery. One more chance to get together before heading home.
